Tik Tok vs. Instagram Reels

Yikes. Rivalries are always a little uncomfortable for me to witness. They're also oddly fascinating. This particular rivalry between Tik Tok and Instagram Reels is really difficult to stop watching.

Tik Tok has been around for a BIT. They have a super refined algorithm and a mega global following. It's hard not to waste hours watching video after video. It really rose in popularity due to the large amounts of spare time folks had at home during the initial pandemic lockdowns.

Instagram, on the other hand, while it has also been around for a WHILE, it is brand new to the Reels game. The long and short of it is that Instagram basically copied Tik Tok's platform and made their own version...because they're Instagram and they can do that. I'm not mad about it. It is what it is. And it is a really popular method of social, digital interaction. It would be silly for them to NOT offer a similar means of communication. But with their "newness," they're also having to play catch up on users, marketing, features, algorithms, etc. They will get there, but they have a long way to go.

It will be interesting to see where each platform is 6 months from now. My bet is, both are going to survive and be just fine. Instagram is not going anywhere. Neither is Tik Tok.... well... probably not anyway.
